You're not alone at the end of life

We can visit during illness, or near death: to pray for; or annoint someone who needs it. Sometimes they want to take communion, to talk or just to hold a hand. Please contact Revd Jo to arrange a visit.

After death, we'd like to help you arrange a funeral that reflects your loved one: their personality, their loves and interests, and their life so that you can say goodbye and honour them properly.

Mostly, the funeral directors will contact us formally. We'll then contact you to arrange a meeting.

Sometimes the person who has died has left clear instructions about hymns, readings or music. More often you will be choosing for them.

Before we meet: perhaps think through what music you would like as we come in and go out. Would you like hymns? Two or three are usual.  We need a Bible reading, but you can have other readings too. Who will read them? Will you want an organist? (We can also play recorded music).

Will you have someone to give their tribute or 'eulogy'? If you find this difficult, we can help you to work out what it might say. And even read it for you.

Don't worry of this all seems a bit much: we'll help you through it as gently as we can.

Bible readings for funerals

Here is a selection of possible Bible readings. There are more of course, if these aren't suitable.

Plan your own funeral

It's OK to think ahead and to plan for your funeral, also to talk about it so your family know what you would like.
